Kill the welfare state

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

The republic will cease to exist when Government takes from those who are industrious and gives to those who refuse to work.    ~ Thomas Jefferson

As one reads the history of the Old Testament kings of Israel, particularly 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles, there is a diabolical refrain rooted in human nature that echoes through these pages … and through the Ages:  And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.    ~ 1 Kings 11:6

When studying the Kingdom Period of ancient Israel, I find many striking similarities with the history of America and how we failed to preserve our beloved republic – allowing it to be perverted by secularists, progressives and liberals and devolve into a pathetic, socialist welfare state.

God repeatedly had to judge Israel for being like the other pagan nations and falling into Baal worship. If Baal worship was the Trojan horse of ancient times that repeatedly caused Israel to fall into apostasy, then surely the welfare state is the killer of republics in modern times and will lead to the destruction of Europe and America.

Baal worship = State worship; Idolatry = Statolatry.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1933-45) masterly exploited the national angst when the stock market collapsed in October 1929, which precipitated the Great Depression. FDR easily defeated then-President Herbert Hoover, a progressive Republican, and used existential tragedies as a pretext to make himself into a transformative president like Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln and his cousin, Theodore Roosevelt. FDR’s New Deal sought to deconstruct America from a moral-based republic grounded on biblical precepts of Natural Law into a European-style socialist welfare state based on envy, corruption, crony capitalism, racialism and what Leon Trotsky called “perpetual revolution.”  Are we witnessing the return of Karl Marx, or at least his anti-capitalist ideology? Compare today’s developments with Marx’s classic, “Das Kapital”

Before FDR, the church and moral-based charitable organizations had helped the poor through voluntary Christian charity without state initiation or state control. FDR lusted after power above all else and took his cue from Chief Justice John Marshall’s aphorism: “The power to tax is the power to destroy.” Sensing a national mandate, FDR created a veritable alphabet soup of unprecedented entitlement programs and new bureaucracies designed to annihilate American exceptionalism and keep the Democrats in power into perpetuity.

Here are just a few of FDR’s New Deal programs:

  • Worker’s Progress Administration (WPA)
  • National Labor Relation Board (NLRB)
  • Social Security Act (SSA)
  • National Labor Relations Act (NLRA fixed unionism with the Democrat Party)
  • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
  • Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA)
  • National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA)
  • Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
  • Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)

FDR knew that his New Deal was wholly unconstitutional; therefore, in 1937, he initiated his infamous Supreme Court Packing Plan. To make his New Deal programs pass constitutional muster, FDR threatened to pack the Court with six more justices hand-picked by him. Fearing a diminishment of their power, SCOTUS caved in, deemed FDR’s New Deal programs to be constitutional (“A switch in time saves 9”), and America has been paying for the sin of socialism to this day.

FDR beguiled us all and turned legalized thievery into art form under the Marxist guise of “redistribution of wealth,” fair-share egalitarianism and social justice. Under the National Socialism of Hitler’s Nazis, which existed concurrently with the administration of FDR, people would fondly remember: “At least he [Hitler] made the trains run on time” (a phrase also applied to Italy’s Mussolini). Likewise, decades after FDR’s New Deal, people would fondly recall, “Every man had a job.” True, but America made a Faustian deal with the devil to get jobs, to get cradle-to-grave welfare. FDR’s New Deal cost America our collective dignity, our freedom, our inalienable rights … our souls.

Ted Sonnier in a blog entry, “Why Jefferson was right,” said: “The money that people earn ‘fair and square’ is taken from them unfairly. This is the problem inherent [in] welfare programs. It is also the first chip out of the foundation of the republic. The next chip is the dependency on bigger and bigger government and the mindset that only the government can fix problems that come with this federal assistance, leading to even larger, overbearing and inefficient government interference and the steady loss of liberty.”

Indeed, because America didn’t learn her lesson from the evils of the welfare state under FDR and LBJ, a certified socialist like Barack Obama was elected president of the United States. Consequently Obama openly refers to his administration as “FDR, part II.”

America’s solution? Just like God had to purge Baal worship from ancient Israel and Judah by pain, war, societal chaos and ultimately by Assyrian captivity (722 B.C.) and Babylonian captivity (586 B.C.), so must America must purge FDR’s diabolical New Deal and welfare-state policies by returning to our founding principles rooted in God, federalism, Natural Law, biblical theism, constitutionalism, liberty and Veritas (truth).

Jefferson, like the great prophets of antiquity, foretold the treason this generation would grapple with when he stated: The republic will cease to exist when Government takes from those who are industrious [workers] and gives to those who refuse to work [leeches]. A recent poll confirmed this fact in that 47 percent of Americans don’t pay any federal income tax.

All of President Obama’s policies, like those of FDR, seek to destroy America from within as a pretext to comprehensively remaking the republic into a servile, Marxist welfare state.

The welfare state cannot be “reformed,” but every aspect of it must be identified, rooted out and systematically destroyed. All congressional legislation and policy objectives by the Republicans from hence forth must amount to the deconstruction of the liberal welfare state. If we achieve this feat, then over time the Democratic Party will concurrently be destroyed and deservedly transformed into the Whig Party of the 21st century.

Dates That Destroyed America

Monday, April 19th, 2010

March 25, 2010 by Chuck Baldwin

Passage of the so-called “health care reform” bill in the House of Representatives this past Sunday, March 21 (I won’t even address the inferred unconstitutionality of Congress doing business on the Lord’s Day. See Article. I. Section. 7. Paragraph. 2.) drove yet another stake into the heart of America. For all intents and purposes, it is the health of the United States that is in dire need of healing. In fact, the US has been on extended life-support for decades. With its condition being rendered critical, and absent major surgery, its days are numbered. The passage of this bill only serves to further weaken an already frail Constitution. In fact, this one may prove to be the fatal blow. Lady Liberty may never recover.

The decision by Congress to socialize medicine in the US ranks among the most draconian, most egregious, most horrific actions ever taken by the central government in Washington, D.C. This bill rocks the principles of liberty and constitutional government to the core. It changes fundamental foundations; it repudiates historical principle. Oh! The same flag may fly on our flagpoles, the same monuments may grace our landscape, and the same National Anthem may be sung during our public ceremonies, but it is not the same America. The Congress of the United States has now officially turned America into a socialist state.

March 23, 2010

President Barack Obama signed the health care bill into law, and as such, this date–along with March 21–joins a list of dates that have each inflicted unconstitutional, socialistic, and sometimes even tyrannical action against the States United and have, therefore, contributed to the destruction of a free America.

April 9, 1865

This is the date when General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to U.S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. Regardless of where one comes down on the subject of the Civil War, one fact is undeniable: Abraham Lincoln forever destroyed the Jeffersonian model of federalism in America. Ever since, virtually every battle that free men have fought for the principles of limited government, State sovereignty, etc., have all stemmed directly from Lincoln’s usurpation of power, which resulted in the subjugation and forced union of what used to be “Free and Independent States” (the Declaration of Independence). In fact, the philosophical battles being waged today regarding the recent health care debacle (and every other encroachment upon liberty and State power by the central government) have their roots in Lincoln’s tyranny.

July 9, 1868

This is the date when the 14th Amendment was ratified. This amendment codified into law what Lincoln had forced at bayonet point. Until then, people were only deemed citizens of their respective states. The Constitution nowhere referred to people as “US citizens.” It only recognized “the Citizens of each State.” Notice also that citizenship was only recognized among the “several States,” not among people living in non-State territories. Until the 14th Amendment, people were “Citizens of each State.” (Article. IV. Section. 2. Paragraph. 1.) The 14th Amendment created a whole new class of persons: “citizens of the United States.” This false notion of “one nation” overturned the Jeffersonian principle that our nation was a confederated republic, a voluntary union of states.

February 3, 1913

This is the date when the 16th Amendment was ratified, and the direct income tax and IRS were instituted. This was a flagrant repudiation of freedom principles! What began as a temporary measure to support the War of Northern Aggression became a permanent income revenue stream for an unconstitutional–and ever-growing–central government.

April 8, 1913

This is the date when the 17th Amendment was ratified. This amendment overturned the power of the State legislatures to elect their own senators and replaced it with a direct, popular vote. This was another serious blow against State sovereignty. The framers of the Constitution desired that the influence and power in Washington, D.C., be kept as close to the people and states as possible. For example, the number of representatives in the House of Representatives was to be decided by a limited number of voters. In the original Constitution, the ratio of “people of the several States” deciding their House member could not exceed “one for every thirty thousand.” (Article. I. Section. 2. Paragraph. 3.) And when it came to the US Senate, the framers also recognized the authority of each State legislature to select its own senators, thereby keeping power and influence from aggregating in Washington, D.C. The 17th Amendment seriously damaged the influence and power of the states by forcing them to elect their US senators by popular vote. The bigger the State, the less influence the State legislature has in determining its US senator. Senators who answered to State legislators, each answering to a limited number of voters, are much more accountable to the “citizens of the several States” than those who are elected by a large number (many times numbering into the millions) of people. For all intents and purposes (at least in the larger states), US Senators are more like “mini-Presidents” than they are representatives of sovereign states.

December 23, 1913

This is the date when the Federal Reserve Act was passed. This Act placed oversight of America’s financial matters into the hands of a cabal of private international bankers, who have completely destroyed the constitutional principles of sound money and (for the most part) free enterprise. No longer would the marketplace (private consumption, thrift, growth, etc.) be the determinant of the US economy (which is what freedom is all about), but now a private, unaccountable international banking cartel would have total power and authority to micromanage (for their own private, parochial purposes) America’s financial sector. Virtually every recession, depression, and downturn (including the one we are now experiencing) has been the direct result of the Fed’s manipulation (again, for its own purposes and with Washington’s cooperation) of the market.

June 26, 1945

This is the date when the United Nations Charter was signed and America joined the push for global government. Ever since, US forces have spilled untold amounts of blood and sacrificed thousands of lives promoting the UN’s agenda. Since the end of World War II, in virtually every war in which US military forces have been engaged, it has been at the behest of the UN. And it is also no accident that America has not fought a constitutionally declared war since we entered the UN–and neither have we won one.

Furthermore, it is America’s involvement in the United Nations that has spearheaded this draconian push for a New World Order that George H. W. Bush, Henry Kissinger, Tony Blair, Walter Cronkite, et al., have talked so much about. The United Nations is an evil institution that has completely co-opted our US State Department and much of our Defense Department. It is an anti-American institution that works aggressively and constantly against the interests and principles of the United States. But it is an institution that is ensconced in the American political infrastructure. Like a cancer, the UN eats away at our liberties and values, and both major political parties in Washington, D.C., are culpable in allowing it to exert so much influence upon our country.

June 25, 1962, and June 17, 1963

These are the dates when the US Supreme Court removed prayer (‘62) and Bible reading (‘63) from public schools. At this point, these two Supreme Court decisions were the most serious affront to the First Amendment in US history. Think of it: from before a union of states was established in 1787, children had been free to pray and read the Scriptures in school. We’re talking about a period of more than 300 years! Of course, the various State legislatures–and myriad city and county governmental meetings–still open their sessions in prayer, as do the US House and Senate, and even the US Supreme Court. But this same liberty is denied the children of America. There is no question that America has not recovered from these two horrific Supreme Court decisions. In effect, the federal government has expelled God not only from our public schools, but also from our public life! And America has not been the same since.

October 22, 1968

This is the date when President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed the Gun Control Act of 1968. Before this Act, the 2nd Amendment was alive and well in the United States. The Gun Control Act of 1968 turned a right into a privilege and forever forced the American people to bow to the altar of government when seeking to arm themselves. Interestingly enough, this Gun Control Act mirrored Nazi Germany’s Gun Control Act of 1938. In fact, the Gun Control Act of 1968 is almost a verbatim copy of Hitler’s Gun Control Act of 1938.

Our Founding Fathers could never have imagined that governments within the “several States” would ever be allowed to deny the people’s right to keep and bear arms. In fact, it was the attempted confiscation of the firearms stored at Concord, Massachusetts, that triggered the War of Independence in 1775. That the people of Massachusetts would be denied their right to keep and bear arms, as they are today, could not have been foreseen–and would never have been tolerated–by America’s founders.

Yet, most of the hundreds of draconian gun control laws that have been inflicted upon the American people have all come about as a result of the Gun Control Act of 1968.

January 22, 1973

This is the date when the US Supreme Court issued the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions, which, in effect, legalized abortion-on-demand. These two decisions expunged the Jeffersonian principle that all men are endowed by their Creator with the unalienable right to life (Declaration). Since then, more than 50 million unborn babies have been legally murdered in their mothers’ wombs. Abortion is, without a doubt, America’s national holocaust. It has opened the door to a host of Big Government programs and policies that have resulted in the wanton destruction of human life both in the United States and overseas. It has created an entire industry whose express purpose for existing is the destruction of human life. It has desensitized the conscience and soul of America. Furthermore, it has forced men of decency and good will to finance–with their tax dollars–the unconscionable act of killing unborn children.

And once again, another Jeffersonian principle was eviscerated. He said, “To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” The Roe and Doe decisions violate this principle in the most egregious manner possible.

October 26, 2001

This is the date when President George W. Bush signed the USA Patriot Act, and the federal government’s war against individual liberty began in earnest. Most of the unconstitutional eavesdropping, snooping, wiretapping, phone call intercepting, email reading, prying, financial records tracking, travel watching, ad infinitum, ad nauseam, by federal police agencies began with the implementation of the Patriot Act. The Department of Homeland Security and the “war on terrorism,” which have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people worldwide, and the usurpation of federal power at home, have all come about as an outgrowth of the Patriot Act. The USA Patriot Act has forever shifted the focus of American law and jurisprudence against constitutional government and individual liberty, toward a police-state mentality. The Patriot Act is even turning our local and State law enforcement agencies into military-style “Jackboots,” where police officers see themselves not necessarily as guardians of the citizenry, but, as often as not, as adversaries, where citizens are deemed to be the “enemy.”

October 17, 2006, and October 9, 2009

These are the dates when President G.W. Bush signed and President Barack Obama re-signed the Military Commissions Act. This Act is the outgrowth of the Patriot Act but has, in effect, terminated the fundamental protections of individual liberty, which are found in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. For all intents and purposes, the Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act eviscerated the 4th and 5th Amendments, and do serious injury to several others. The Military Commissions Act also expunges the constitutional right of Habeas Corpus.

March 21 and 23, 2010

These are the dates when Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” the so-called “health care reform” bill that we spoke about at the beginning of this column. While Social Security and various Welfare programs have toyed with socialism in the United States, this bill is the largest and most expansive endorsement of socialism in American history. This bill socializes some 18% of the US economy by socializing the health care industry in America. The fallout and ramifications of this bill are going to be horrific.

When future historians review the demise of our once-great republic, they will observe that the above dates, including March 21 and March 23, 2010, were the dates that destroyed America. The American people have been far too tolerant for far too long.

People concerned about the future of freedom and prosperity in America should line up quickly and demand that their respective State legislatures and governors resist this new health care bill, even to the point of refusing to implement it in their states. More than 30 states are threatening to take the health care bill to court. But states must do more than that. They must follow the lead of the State of Virginia and pass legislation refusing to comply with it. Yes, I’m saying it: it is time for another State rebellion! If states do not stand up and draw their lines in the sand now, it will be forever too late.

Happy 220th Birthday Benjamin Franklin

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

On APRIL 17, 1790, the son of a poor candle-maker died. The 15th of 17 children, he apprenticed as a printer and published a popular almanac. He retired at age 42, then taught himself five languages, invented the rocking chair, bifocal glasses and the lighting rod, which earned him degrees from Harvard and Yale. He helped found the University of Pennsylvania, a hospital, America’s first postal system and fire department. He became the governor of Pennsylvania, signed the Declaration of Independence and called for prayer at the Constitutional Convention. He was president of America’s first anti-slavery society. His name was Ben Franklin. In his Poor Richard’s Almanac, May 1757, Ben Franklin wrote: “Work as if you were to live 100 years; pray as if you were to die tomorrow.” In a pamphlet for Europeans titled Information to Those Who Would Remove to America, 1754, Benjamin Franklin wrote: “Atheism is unknown there; Infidelity rare and secret; so that persons may live to a great age in that country without having their piety shocked by meeting with either an Atheist or an Infidel. And the Divine Being seems…pleased to favor the whole country.”

Government Cancer nurtured by Democrats & Republicans

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

There is no more dreaded disease than cancer. Cancer causes millions of deaths each year in America, and it is painful, debilitating, and causes horrible pain. Cancer is rarely discovered in time to cure it. Like termites in a home, cancer gnaws at the body, and until the pain begins, it is almost never discovered until it approaches its final stages.  You never know he have it until it’s too late.

America has a cancer which has been eating at it for 77 years.  The cancer America has is the same cancer that killed the Roman Empire and others as well. The cancer is government growth, and all that goes with it. When FDR started his Social Security system, many warned against it, but no heed was paid. After all, it would only cost 1% of rich people’s paychecks, and the old would be secure. We were a rich nation; we should care for our elderly, and make their old age free from worry. When the first public housing was built in 1937, the minimum wage installed in 1938, or various forms of welfare instituted, a few shouted “fire,” but were ignored. Republicans and Democrats both voted for all of FDR’s schemes. As years passed, wars fought, and more and more ‘programs’ approved, voted upon, and signed into law, they were just like an un-detected cancer or a home being eaten from within by termites.

The pressure on gold backed dollars became so strong that Nixon removed the backing, thereby allowing virtually unlimited printing. Politicians then could spend as much as they pleased because the bucks could be printed without any regard of re-paying the debts that were incurred as a result of irresponsible spending. After all, as the saying used to be, “We owe it to ourselves.” Not to worry, we’re going to raise everyone’s standard of living, take care of the poor, and eliminate poverty. We’re going to build an interstate highway system, and even though it will kill the passenger train and tens of thousands of businesses, when the highways by-pass their towns, everyone will be able to drive anywhere at high speed. We’ll sponsor a government passenger train, which will only cost a hundred million a year. “Not to worry, we are a rich nation and so rich that we ca n do anything we want,” was the usual explanation given by politicians.

Everyone got so happy that they didn’t need to do much hard work any longer, that Mexicans were imported to do what we white folk wouldn’t do. More and more welfare and public housing was handed out and built. The cities were going down pretty quickly, forcing “white flight,” but we were a rich nation, so not to worry. The cancer hadn’t really been noticed as yet. We’d start HUD and fix the cities.

In 1965, Medicare was passed, and the cancer caused a little pain, but we were caring for the sick, and we “Owed most of it to ourselves,” so not to worry. The cancer was at the point where it was at about a 25% cure rate, but few noticed. In 1972, the brains in D.C. brought on food stamps. Truman, LBJ, and Bush got us into wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, but after all, our soldiers were going into battle, “To protect us,” even though that was a blatant lie. The costs were usually not part of the budget, or were hidden, so even though the cancer was advancing, few bothered to worry. George Bush passed the prescription drug bailout program, and it’s only cost a trillion so far, and Republicans and Democrats voted for it. We need to ‘help’ the aged, of course. Government had robbed them of the dollar value, and incentives to save and plan ahead, but we furnished Social Security, Medicare, and Prescriptions. We were a rich nation.

Obama got nominated and elected, and as he was running for office he told everyone that he wanted to nationalize medicine and health, and actually turn America into a socialized state, but most were so sick of George Bush, and the Republicans picked a highly unelectable Senator as a candidate, that Obama got elected, and promptly kept his word. Now the cancer was so obvious that even the Republicans recognized it, and the majority of Americans recognized it also. The Democrats knew all along, but they thought that the cancerous handouts, welfare, programs, and other effluvia, were benign, and after all “We owe some of it to ourselves.” Now, America owes China a trillion unbacked dollars, Illegals are everywhere, and the deficit is hundreds of billions every month. Welfare recipients, Social Security recipients, Medicare recipients, public housing dwellers, and millions and millions of businesses, groups and citizens which have been addicted to government handouts, contracts, and checks, are totally incapable of going it alone, because it would be impossible to go it alone…thanks to the cancer which now is at the 95% fatality stage.

Suddenly, when it is probably too late, Republicans, who have been feeding the cancer for 77 years, say that they are opposed to Obama care. In strong speeches, and threats of lawsuits, Republicans now are covering up all the misdeeds they have committed, which fed the cancer. They, like the Democrats, have acted irresponsibly for 77 years, and now they are supposed to be able to cure the cancer? A vote in November will save America? Like it did when Republicans took over both houses before? When they controlled both houses, they quickly reverted to feeding the cancer.

The cancer has metastasized into the whole body of America. The few of us who have been warning of upcoming death have not been heeded. The cancer has given us a virtually worthless currency, unpayable debts, upcoming runaway inflation, and a huge, worthless, underclass. We are now bogged down in two pointless, expensive wars, which seem to be un-winnable, and we are about to lose our credit rating. America needs huge infusions of cancer hiding loans to keep alive, and the purveyors of those loans have about decided we are a bad risk.

Now what? Reform the Republicans with Tea Party threats? Throw the bums out in November, and take over the Congress? Even if that happened, and I hope it does, the debts are unpayable, and welfare recipients cannot be denied, because if they were, America would be in ruins pretty quickly from the riots and arson…which may happen anyway. Best thing, to me, is to get out of big cities and protect yourself with historic, beautiful, real, money, not government issued scrip.

Regards, Don Stott
