IRS employees want exempted from Obamacare

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Even though they’ll be charged with enforcing its mandates, employees of the Internal Revenue Service are petitioning Congress to be exempted from Obamacare.

The National Treasury Employees Union is asking its members to sign letters to Congress objecting to a new bill which would compel federal employees, including the president, Congress and IRS, to participate in the health plans and health insurance exchanges created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.

“I am very concerned about legislation to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act,” the form letters state. “The primary purpose of the Affordable Care Act was to provide a marketplace for the sale and purchase of health insurance for those who do not have such coverage – not to take coverage away from employees who already receive it through their employers.”

Yet as thousands of private-sector employees have already experienced, the net effect of Obamacare has been exactly as the union fears: incentivizing employers to drop coverage or cut work hours to avoid spiking health-insurance costs, thus stripping employees of private health-plan options and dropping them into the federal insurance exchanges.

Rep. Camp introduced H.R. 1780 after top congressional leaders attempted to exempt themselves and their staff from the exchanges, even though the PPACA specifically requires members of Congress participate in them.

Why Medical Liberty is Lost

Monday, July 15th, 2013

Sadly, it’s not a nightmare. It’s reality. When Edward Snowden stood up to tell the world that the U.S. government was granting itself unthinkable control over American citizens as well as global society, he had one fear. It wasn’t the fear of imprisonment or being thrown into his current life of exile. It was that, at the end of the day, nothing would change. He would expose the truth … and after a little media frenzy, nothing would change. And his fears have come true.

There haven’t been angry mobs in the street … or a group of fed-up, educated taxpayers demanding that Obama – and the rest of Congress – immediately discontinue phone tracking and intranet monitoring. No serious calls have been made for impeachment. There hasn’t been a bill on intelligence-reform rushed before Congress. There have been no hearings. Sadly, there has been nothing much at all … except for a few pissed off European allies. Everyone just seems to have shrugged.

I saw an online post the other day: “President Obama spies on half the world and no one cares. But Paula Deen uses a racial slur 30 years ago and everyone loses their mind.” That is a sad but accurate snapshot of the state of U.S. opinion.

It frustrates me to no end that the majority of us no longer cares about civil liberties or personal freedom. More and more, I feel like I’m alone … especially when it comes to my beliefs that liberty, freedom and the unfettered ability to create a successful life for myself and my family is no longer the American ideal. You know how I feel. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Email me at to share your opinion. I want the good, the bad and the ugly. – Erika of Sovereign Digest
